Article summary

Thank you to Keír Finlow-Bates for sharing his expertise in our knowledge base.

This video is the first in a series on blockchain wallets.

Today's video presents an introduction to the generation of private keys for cryptographic and blockchain purposes. It is the result of a chat I had with Resonance Security and Quantum Computing Inc.

Quantum processes appear to be the best possible way to generate true randomness, and true randomness is required to produce the most secure private keys for public key cryptography, and hence for blockchain wallets.

In summary, if you don't understand randomness, you should not be designing or implementing blockchain wallets. And understanding randomness involves accepting a weird empirically verified nature of the universe, namely that from our perspective it is not a deterministic "clockwork machine".
