I have a lot of respect for those who work in Information Technology

As the curator of Teckedin.com, a tech-only knowledge base, I know a lot about new solutions and services being offered, how jobs are being affected, and how AI adoption is progressing.

My background is as a Value-added reseller in business process automation. I have worked in an IT department (Enterprise applications group) and with many IT Managers, Project Managers, and CIOs.

IT departments are at the forefront of IT Adoption.

They may have end-users who are using applications that could affect company or agency security. They need to stay up on new innovations that can help with data management, network management, and security. And they have to work with their boards and management, who are looking for AI to increase productivity and profitability.

I have picked out some articles from our knowledge base that I think will be insightful and helpful.

Thank you for reading.

IT Management:

Information Week - The Current Top AI Employers

The most sought-after skills in AI job postings, according to WilsonHCG data, include deep learning, machine learning model development, computer vision, generative AI, and natural language processing (NLP), Karjalainen says

Computerworld - Meta, Apple say the quiet part out loud: The genAI emperor has no clothes

Amidst the mountains of vendor cheerleading for generative AI efforts, often amplified by enterprise board members, skeptical CIOs tend to feel outnumbered. But their cynical worries may now have some company, in the form of a report from Apple and an interview from Meta — both of which raise serious questions about whether genAI can actually do much of what its backers claim.

Forbes - Tech Budget Pressures Highlight Growing AI Hype Gap

AI is all the rage, and it’s driven up excitement in the tech markets. But if you are a tech executive, it’s also causing headaches. There might be pressure on you to allocate money to unproven generative AI projects, and that means squeezing money out of the bread-and-butter tech budget.

CIO - CIOs under pressure to deliver AI outcomes faster

“The explosion of AI has really put CIOs in the spotlight and placed the CIOs in the hot seat like never before,” says Perez, fresh off two industry events in which many of his CIO colleagues say they feel they are between a rock and a hard place. “It is really clear to me how CIOs and other tech executives from all kinds of organizations are being challenged as to how they can to move quicker, but also responsibly, with AI.”

AiThority - Balancing Speed and Safety When Implementing a New AI Service

AI alone won’t solve all your business problems, but understand that this new technology can be a powerful tool when deployed with purpose. Take the time to outline your pain points and then map AI’s capabilities to those areas to understand how you can drive specific impact with a new AI solution.

Data Management:

Blocks & Files - High-quality data key for effective AI agents

In fact, 55 percent of organizations avoid certain GenAI use cases due to data-related issues, according to Deloitte research. The consultancy also found that 75 percent of organizations have increased their tech investments around data lifecycle management due to GenAI.

VentureBeat - The power of business semantics: Turning data into actionable AI insights

The misalignment between IT and business is due to inconsistencies in how they view the business – each has quite differing approaches to the balance between data agility and data governance. Bringing these together is a time-consuming task for IT because when data is extracted from its source, the business context — an understanding of that data in relationship to the processes it was originally associated with — is completely wiped out

ZDNET - Could AI make data science obsolete?

"Technology is no longer owned by any one department of function," they explain. "Data and its analyses are no longer the property of only the PhDs and the hard-core number crunchers. From now on, all employees have the ability to be system designers, data analysts, coders, and creators."

Dark Reading - Mozilla: ChatGPT Can Be Manipulated Using Hex Code

Figuring out the exact right way to present information in order to dupe state-of-the-art AI, though, requires lots of creative brain power. It turns out that there's a much simpler method for bypassing GPT-4o's content filtering: encoding instructions in a format other than natural language.

CSO Security researchers circumvent Microsoft Azure AI Content Safety

At issue are a pair of shortcomings in AI Text Moderation filter, which prevents harmful or inappropriate content from appearing in user-generated text and visuals, and the Prompt Shield filter, which protects the AI against jailbreaks and prompt injection, respectively. Prompt injections have been identified as the most critical LLM vulnerability, according to OWASP.

Data Science Central - Why AI bias is a cybersecurity risk — and how to address it

Focus on Diversity - While small language models work well, diverse datasets are crucial for bigger or more comprehensive operations. Ultimately, a machine doesn’t have the same ability to reason as a human. While a statistic may show a pattern, humans can use critical thinking to understand it is not an indicator of every person in a gender or race.

In addition to the technology areas mentioned above, IT also has to work with other departments to install, implement, and train on new applications and tools.

What productivity tools are they going to purchase?

Who is going to train employees?

I thought these two articles may be of interest.

VentureBeat - ServiceNow advocates for ‘invisible’ AI agents to ease worker adoption

Enterprises are beginning to deploy AI agents. However, if organizations plan to deploy agentic ecosystems at scale and improve employee acceptance, they might consider treating AI agents as tools working in the background to avoid intimidating employees who think they have to know how to use these tools.

Android Authority - Poll: Which AI chatbot are you using right now?

Each chatbot brings a different flavor to the table, shaped by the goals of its parent company. Whether you’re exploring travel options, streamlining work, or finding new ways to stay informed, there’s an AI chatbot built for your needs.
